Travis Saturday - broke in eleven places

Travis Saturday - broken in eleven placesThere’s something about Texas music that sticks in your ear. Travis Saturday’s freshman release “broke in eleven places” is a solid blend of great songwriting and terrific music. Grounded in his country roots, Travis doesn’t mimic today’s modern rock/country sound. There’s no mention of badonka-donks, thankfully. But there are plenty mentions of lost relationships, dusty dance halls, new love, and even a woeful nod to Merle Haggard. With great steel guitar licks and heart-felt introspective lyrics, it feels “truer” than any country album I’ve heard in a while.

A sure single, “Lightning Fast” is a haunting story perfectly matched with a haunting guitar backdrop. “Texas Education” is a beer-in-hand sing-along glorifying extracurricular activities in College Station. One of the many introspective songs, “Half the hell Haggard has” speaks to anyone who has tried, failed, and struggled to get up and try again. The album ends solidly with “Here I go again”, and while the lyrics speak of serial infidelity, the music reinforces the glimmer of hope you hear in his voice. Hope that he’ll get it right this time.

Travis has definitely gotten it right.
